Somong also known as “SO”, is a Korean-American singer, songwriter, and music producer from Daegu, South Korea. Somong, was raised in a religious home where he was first introduced to Gospel and Carol Type music. He became inspired to pursue a music career in the sixth grade after joining his middle school band and playing in the percussion section. Already picking up an ear for playing piano, drums, and synthesized keyboards, Somong began freestyle dancing. Somong went on to win his high school’s first Karaoke talent showcase where he adopted his stage name So. After winning the Best Male R&B title for his county, So began collaborating with The inc in 2008, his third label opportunity in six years.
Still unsigned, So made his first independent R&B debut on his local radio station x102.3 FM on November 7th, 2010. After his first R&B single “Ricashay” failed to chart, he continued to self engineer multiple demos, which still haven’t released. In 2011, So was again recognized as the Best Male R&B of West Palm Beach County, Florida.
So received further recognition following the release of his first mainstream collaboration on Multi Platinum artist Ja Rule’s seventh studio album released on February 28, 2012 which peaked 21st on US Rap Albums Billboard charts. So produced and featured on track #7 entitled “Drown”.
